Privacy & Local Data Notice
Effective August 29, 2026
ArborLibre is designed to work without an account. Your tree books stay in browser storage on the device you use unless you deliberately export or share them.
The short version
- No ArborLibre account, advertising profile, or product analytics are required.
- Tree records and photos are stored locally in your browser, not synchronized to an ArborLibre cloud account.
- Location is requested only when you choose a location feature; ArborLibre does not run background location tracking.
- You control movement of the collection through a full backup ZIP, PDF exports, or links you deliberately open.
What stays on your device
ArborLibre can store books, tree identities, species and condition fields, measurements, notes, dated observations, photographs, coordinates, accuracy estimates, and app settings in browser storage. The app may also cache its own files so it can continue working after the first visit when the browser permits it.
ArborLibre does not operate account-based cloud synchronization or a server-side recovery copy of that collection. Ordinary web hosting systems may receive basic network information needed to serve the site—such as an IP address, requested file, browser headers, and time—even though ArborLibre does not use product analytics or advertising trackers.
Backups and deletion
Download a full backup ZIP regularly and before changing browsers, devices, or web addresses. Keep that ZIP private: it may contain photographs, notes, and exact coordinates.
Local data may be lost if you clear browser or site data, use private browsing, remove the app, reset or lose the device, change browsers without restoring a backup, or if the browser or operating system evicts storage. Deleting local records or browser data is generally permanent unless you have a usable backup.
Location and maps
ArborLibre asks the browser for location only when you request it. Your device supplies the coordinates and an accuracy estimate; signal, permissions, hardware, and surroundings affect the result.
OpenStreetMap
When you open the Map, your browser requests tiles for the visible area from an OpenStreetMap tile service. That provider may receive ordinary request data such as your IP address, browser headers, referrer, and the approximate map area requested. ArborLibre’s tree records and marker details remain in the browser and are not attached to those tile requests.
Google Maps
An exact-location link is sent to Google Maps only when you choose to open that link. The destination URL includes the selected coordinates and Google’s own terms and privacy practices then apply.
Information you share elsewhere
PDF reports, backup files, photographs, map links, and text copied from ArborLibre leave the app only when you export, upload, or share them. If you choose to submit ArborLibre information or files to ChatGPT or another service, that service receives what you provide and its own terms and privacy practices apply.
Changes and contact
This notice may change as the public beta develops. A revised version will show a new effective date. For privacy questions, use the contact channel published with ArborLibre and do not include sensitive coordinates or backup files unless they are specifically needed.
